Ah, where to begin? Perhaps as recently as 2001,when my husband and I moved to my grandparent’s farm. It was that move, to the gracious home that had been my summer sanctuary for so many of my early years, that inspired me to build and live my dream: Chartreuse & co.
Begun as occasional tag sales centered around the cottage on our property, these events took on a life of their own as we converted our 3 large barns into Chartreuse & co and were joined by an amazing group of creative, inspiring, thoroughly entertaining, and astonishingly unique dealers.
My girls, Katherine (21) and Alexandra (20), have grown up in the chaos that is my life, and they are my joy. Chip, my husband, is my rock. And with the 3 of them, I live my Chartreuse Life here in Buckeystown, Maryland, sharing our land, our inspiration, and our great finds with thousands of fellow decorating aficionados each month.
I hope to share with you my insights, inspirations, triumphs, and mistakes that you may gain creative insights, and perhaps become inspired to live your own dream as well.
Virginia,
Sure wish I lived closer to be able to come to your shop. Looks awesome!!!
We do not have to many places like this here in NorthDakota.
Good luck with everything!!
Leslie
Thanks so much, Leslie. Let me know if you’re ever down this way – we’ll open up just for you.
where are you physcially located? I want to come and shop when you open in a few days. Thank you! nancy
We’re 3 miles south of I-270 on Rt 85. Make a left onto Post Office Rd and take the left through the trees into our parking. You can’t miss it for the all the flags when we’re open.
Good Morning Virginia,
Love the store, my husband and I were talking with you earlier this year and you mentioned you were contemplating having a hugh outdoor flea market for people who were not in the store to join in. I was wondering if you were still thinking of doing that, if so, we would love to be apart of it. If you could shoot me a quick email on wether or not you were going to, we would love to get the ball running and do whatever you required to join in the festivities.
Thanks so much,
Cassie Lentz
We’re having our first ever Market Days March 31-April 1. Deadline for applications is this Friday, Feb 24. I’ll shoot you an application at your email address.
Thanks for writing,
Virginia
Hi Virginia–
I’ve had a blast at Chartreuse sales over the years–furnished my son’s college apartment with things from them. A introduced a girlfriend to your place on your first Market Day, and now another friend has a need for rugs. There was a gal from New Jersey at your Days selling affordable rugs from N.Africa–can you send me a link or her name/contact info? I really enjoyed the range of vendors you invited–it made it such an adventure! Thanks for a wonderful concept and your continued efforts–it must be a lot of work!
The rugs are a great deal! I have them throughout my house, and all the rugs for the girls’ apartment will be from Karen. Her email is karen.wovenfloors@yahoo.com. Hope you find what you’re looking for!
This is so awesome!!! What a beautiful story, I love that you’re pursuing your dream. I’ve lately been realizing that my dream is to be an entrepreneur. I am passionate about feng shui and furniture design, as well as costuming and clothing design. I love your artistic vision and the work you’re doing on the tenant house. I would love to help if I could!!
~Mia
Mia, thanks so much for your encouraging words. I hope you’re feeling inspired to pursue your dream. Entrepreneurship is a vocation, and oh so rewarding, and challenging, at the same time. Let me know if you’d like any insights from one who’s made loads of mistakes and come out the other side.
Thank you so much, I am! I’m trying to figure out where to start, actually. I would greatly appreciate any insights you can share with me. If you’d like to email me, please feel free to. All the best,
~Mia
hi! i was at your place for the first time yesterday, loved it! the furniture and home goods are very much my style for decorating. i’m curious how it works as a business: are the vendors independent? do they apply for space? do you supply parking guys and checkout people and the different shop owners do the rest? how did you come up with the idea, and how did you grow it? i’ve never really seen that kind of model and it’s pretty interesting. thanks, see you again soon! jennie
Like so many businesses (and inventions, too) it was born of necessity – one detail at a time. Each of the dealers is independent, and it is a carefully selected group. Each one is creative, energetic, and fun to work with. They all also know how to find and/or creative great stuff for the home. I’m blessed to be able to work with them all.
While I am one among the dealers here at Chartreuse & co, my husband and I run the overall business, which includes the parking guys and checkout people you mentioned.
I am a designer and would the opportunity to meet with you & join your team of vendors. My name is Karen Reed and I am the artist/designer for phsyiology. Our philosophy is were design meets function. We repurpose and re use different items in new ways. Like a hand drill as a light or a vintsge door as I dining table or even an organization planner for a mud room. Also I have been a successful faux finisher, decorative painter for over 20 years. I hope to seak with you soonas the season is quickly approaching & my studio is running out if room.
You can reach me at phsyiology4u@ymail.com or 301-524-6645.
Thanks Karen. My email is vacrum@chartreuseandco.com. Drop me a line any time.

Hello – I’m just reading about your wonderful shops and was disappointed to see that we’ll miss the 3rd weekend of the month. My daughter is getting married on August 31 at Hollow Creek in Middleton and our out of town guests are staying at the Marriott Courtyard in Frederick (Buckeystown). Is there a chance you’d be open at all during Labor Day weekend and I can direct folks your way?
thanks so much,
Leslie Eslinger

We won’t be open that weekend, but if you email me (vacrum@chartreuseandco.com), I’ll give you my cell number to give to those who may want to stop by. If they call beforehand, I can probably meet them and open up.

Hi there! I went into one of my favorite shops, Vintage Bliss, in Ellicott City which sells MMS milk paint. Unfortunately, they told me that they were closing and moving to Frederick! Will you all be selling it now? Thanks.
Vintage Bliss will soon be at Chartreuse & co; we’re excited to have Libby join our team!
